Abstract
Cefmetazole (Cefmetazon¢ç; CMZ) which is semisynthetic second generation cephamycin derivat ve, has wide antimicrobial spectrum and strong resistance to (3-iactamase.
To evaluate its efficacy and safety, laboratory and clinical studies were performed in 35 patients treeted in the Department, of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Kosin Medical College Gospel Hospital from April 1386 to July 1986.
The clinical results were as follows; `
1. CMZ was effective in all 5 cases (100%) of the prophylatic use group after cesarean section, or hysterectomy.
2. CMZ has shown satisfactory clinical effects on 29 of 30 (96.6%) infected patients; 100% (4/4) in pelvic inflammatory diseases, 100% (2/2) in cervicitis, 100% (5/5) in wound infections. 100% (4/4) in pelvic abscess, 100% (4/4) in UTI, 100% (3/3) in puerperal infection, 87.5% (7/8) in cervical cancer infection.
3. In this study, the cultured organisms were as follow; E. coli(5), coagulase negative Staphylococci (5), S. epidermidis (5), Klebsiella (4), Proteus (3), S. fecalis (2), S. aureus (2), Pseudomonas (1). In the sensitivity test of CMZ, the above mentioned all organisms were sensitive to CMZ except 1 strai of St. fecalis and I strain of S. aureus.
4. The side effect of CMZ was only mild itching and discrete rashes.
